A practical commercial electrical maintenance checklist for operating facilities.
This is not a substitute for an electrical inspection or job-specific evaluation. It is a facility-management framework for spotting repeat problems, organizing repair lists and deciding what belongs in a planned project.
Lighting
Track recurring dark fixtures, flicker, drivers or ballasts, photocells, timers, contactors, controls and uneven areas instead of treating each failure as unrelated.
Circuits & devices
Document nuisance trips, dead receptacles, hot or damaged devices, intermittent power and areas with repeat callbacks.
Panels & distribution
Keep panel access clear, maintain current labeling where possible and flag recurring breaker or capacity concerns for evaluation.
Equipment power
Before new equipment arrives, confirm electrical requirements and whether dedicated power or distribution changes may be needed.
Controls
Identify lighting, timer, photocell, relay and contactor problems that affect multiple fixtures or operating schedules.
Project backlog
Group repeat repairs and aging systems into planned upgrades when that is more efficient than continuing one-off service calls.
Turn scattered service calls into a usable maintenance record.
For each recurring problem, record the location, symptom, date, affected equipment, whether the issue is intermittent, and what changed before the failure. Patterns become much easier to see when the information is consistent.
When maintenance should become a planned upgrade.
Repeated failures, obsolete equipment, recurring lighting outages, repeated circuit overload and changing facility loads can justify a broader project review rather than another isolated repair.
